Your child’s first visit

Once your child has their first birthday, it’s time for their first dental visit. Visiting the dentist as soon as their baby teeth start coming in is an effective way to prevent childhood cavities and learn proper oral hygiene habits. The first dental visit in Limerick PA is usually short and involves very little treatment. It’s important to prepare your child the same way you would before their first haircut. To ease any of their, or your, fears or anxieties, our office has an “open door” policy where parents are welcome into the treatment rooms with their children.

During your child’s first visit, the dentist will:

  • Examine their mouth, teeth, and gums
  • Evaluate adverse habits (e.g. thumb sucking)
  • Check to see if they need fluoride treatments
  • Teach them about cleaning their teeth and gums
  • Suggest a schedule for regular dental visits

If your child is a little anxious or nervous about their first dental visit in Phoenixville PA, here are some tips to help make their experience as pleasant as possible:

  • Take your child for a tour of the office in Douglasville PA
  • Read books with them about going to the dentist
  • Explain what the dentist will be doing during their visit
  • Speak positively about your own dental experiences
  • Answer any and all of their questions
